It is seldom heard that a child calls his/her parent by his/her first name, even though one has happened to do so. Usually the child calls the father ‘father’ and the mother ‘mother’. After all, the word ‘mother’ is the first and most anticipated word for every child! Therefore, it is no surprise to say that Jeshua, the Son of God, calls God ‘father’.

Since Jeshua has not written any of the Gospels, we must trust what the evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, have written. I chose Matthew out of them just because it is the first in the New Testament. I went through all of Jesus ’speeches and recorded what word He uses about God.

Maybe that cry of pain on the cross (Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani) is a testimony specifically that Jeshua spoke Aramaic! After all, it is clear that every person prays in their own mother tongue even in a foreign country, and in a moment of great distress, a familiar language comes into the mouth automatically. Matthew (Matt. 27: 46) and Mark (Mark 15: 34) have written us these Aramaic words.

📖 I found 7 verses from Matthew that contain the word ‘Lord’ derived from the Tetragrammaton, but each of the 7 verses also has a quote from the Old Testament, so יהוה comes with the quote. It is impossible to know how Jeshua has used the Old Testament text in each situation, especially if his mother tongue was Aramaic. There is no Tetragrammaton at all in the texts of Peshitta (New Testament in Aramaic). The word מריא (Marya) seems to appear in place of the Tetragrammaton, but this word is used anyway to refer to ‘the Lord’. As proof of this, מריא appears in Matthew 18 times.

Because Jeshua is not ashamed to call us His brothers (Hebr. 2: 11), that is, He considers us His sisters and brothers, and because He taught His followers the prayer 'Our Father' (Matt. 6: 9 -13), we have every right to speak of God as the 'Father.' One of my schoolmates, I think, wrote the words 'Heavenly Father' nicely like 'HeavenFather' 😍
