אהיה אשר אהיה (ehjee asher ehjee)

Nuo sanat löytyvät 2. Moos. 3: 14:sta, ja ovat Jumalan vastaus Moosekselle, joka ihmetteli Jumalalta saamaansa kutsua johtaa israelilaiset pois Egyptistä ja vastasi Jumalalle näin: "Katso, kun minä menen israelilaisten luo ja sanon heille: 'Teidän isienne Jumala on lähettänyt minut teidän luoksenne', ja kun he kysyvät minulta: 'Mikä hänen nimensä on? niin mitä minä heille vastaan?" Those words are found in Ex. 3: 14, and are God's response to Moses, who marveled at God's call to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, and replied to God: "When I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say to them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?" (Ex. 3: 13).

Those three Hebrew words are usually translated 'I am that I am'.

אהיה (ehjee) on heprean olla-verbin (היה hajah) yksikön 1. persoonan taivutusmuoto 'olen', ja tämä sana esiintyy siis kahdesti tuossa Jumalan vastauksessa. אהיה (ehyeh) is the first person in singular of the Hebrew hajah-verb (היה) and means 'I am', and this word appears twice in God's reply. This verbal form is called 'imperfect', because it means unfinished and still continuous doing, and imperfect is translated in the present or future tense.

Tästä periaatteesta huolimatta sana אהיה (ehjee) on käännetty Raamatussa myös menneessä aikamuodossa (esim. 2. Sam. 7: 6, 7). Joten verbimuoto אהיה on kuin itse Jumala... joka on aina ja iankaikkisesti.

Despite this principle, the word אהיה (ehyeh) has also been translated in the Bible in the past tense (example 2. Sam. 7: 6, 9). So the verbal form אהיה is like God himself... who is always and forever.

Näin ollen ne tahot, jotka korostavat futuuri-aikamuodon oikeellisuutta saksan käännöksen mukaan, joutunevat hiukan miettimään väitettään. (Saksalainen käännös menee näin: "Ich werde sein, der ich sein werde")

Thus, those who emphasise the correctness of future tense according to the German translation will have to think a little about their argument. (The German translation goes like this: "Ich werde sein, der ich sein werde")

אשר (asher) on heprean relatiivipronomini 'joka'

אשר (asher) is the Hebrew relative pronoun 

MUTTA אשר on myös verbi... itse asiassa kaksi eri verbiä, joiden merkitykset kannattaa huomioida tarkoin!

BUT אשר is also a verb... in fact two different verbs, and their meanings are worth paying close attention to!

אשר I:

qal: kulkea suoraan/ kulkea eteenpäin (esim. Sanal. 9: 6)

piel: kulkea/tallata (esim. Sanal. 4: 14)

        ohjata/johtaa/opastaa (esim. Jes. 3: 12)

        ojentaa/pitää kurissa (esim. Jes. 1: 17)

puel: tulla johdetuksi/olla johdettavana (esim. Jes. 9: 15)

אשר I: 

qal: go straight/go forward (example Prov. 9: 6)

piel: to walk/to tread/to stomp (example Prov. 4: 14)

        to guide/to lead (example Isa. 3: 12)

        to hand out/to keep in check (example Isa. 1: 17)

puel: to be led (example Isa. 9: 15)

אשר II:

piel: pitää onnellisena/ylistää onnelliseksi (esim. 1. Moos. 30: 13)

puel: olla onnellisena pidetty (esim. Ps. 41: 3; Sanal. 3: 18)

hifil: tehdä onnelliseksi 

אשר II:

piel: keep happy/praise happy (example Gen. 30: 13)

puel: to be considered happy (example Ps. 41: 2; Prov. 3: 18)

hifil: make you happy

Considering all the meanings of the word אשר, God answered Moses in this way:

I AM the one who will go before you and straight ahead, who will tread your enemies, who leads and guides both you and all the people, who hands out and keeps in check a large number of Israel, and I AM the one who will make you happy, the one who will keep you happy, so that you will be praised as a happy people, that I AM.
